Mary Magdalene was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. The idea that she was his wife, a prostitute, or an apostle to the apostles is not in the Scriptures. Why did Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem? Prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger. How did the shepherds’ visit affect Mary? The angel Gabriel brings Mary a message from God—she is going to have a baby. Mary travels from Nazareth into Judea to see Elizabeth, who is also pregnant. Mary had the unique privilege of giving birth to Jesus while she was still a virgin, just as Isaiah prophesied. Yet Jesus’ birth was not an ‘immaculate conception.’
